Friday Announcements

Good morning Loma Portal families and welcome to 2023 here at LPE! I hope you all had wonderful breaks and spent some fun and meaningful time with your family and loved ones. It was nice to have some time away from work but I have to say that it is nice to be back! As you can imagine, there has been a great deal of excitement this week here at school. Even though we have had some rain, students are PUMPED to be back at school! Thank you for sharing them with us! Please see below for some important updates. Happy New Year families! --MM

  1. Each year, schools vote for the annual Teacher of the Year and Classified Staff Member of the Year awards. These are small ways to honor our amazing staff members and to give them some much needed recognition for what they do for our school. A HUGE shout out goes to our 2023 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Jiampa, and 2023 Classified Staff Member of the Year, Michelle Hutchinson! Mrs. Jiampa will be honored during Teacher Appreciation Week (5/8-5/12..don’t forget!) and Mrs. Hutchinson will be recognized at our SDUSD Board Meeting on 5/17. Congratulations to you both!
  2. On Wednesday 1/11 (6:00-7:30pm), our Point Loma Cluster Schools Foundation has invited a special guest speaker to address our entire community. Andrew McPeak, co-author of “Generation Z Unfiltered” will be coming to Point Loma Nazarene (Liberty Station campus) to speak with parents from all 9 Point Loma schools about how to support their children in “Beating stress and taking control of their lives.” It should be very interesting. This is a free event and the first 500 people to RSVP will receive a free book. The flyer is HERE. To RSVP, click HERE.
  3. The 2023-2024 UTK Pre-Enrollment window will be open 2/1-2/28. Click HERE for more information (Span). If you know of any friends or neighbors with a UTK-aged child, please pass this information on.
  4. Our next English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) meeting is rescheduled to Friday 1/20 @ 7:30am in our Library. We are sorry for the last minute change. I hope to see you there!
  5. Our next School Site Council (SSC) meeting will be on Monday 1/23 @ 3pm via Zoom. This meeting is open to the public. If you would like to attend, please email me at [email protected] for the Zoom link. The agenda is HERE.
  6. REMINDER - schools are closed on Monday 1/16 in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
