October 7th Announcements

Good afternoon families! Please see below for some important updates.

  1. Parents and family members, please continue to make sure your child is at school every day (when they are healthy). We have been seeing a concerning trend lately.....each day for the past 10days, at least 10% of our students have been absent from school. Some of these students had confirmed illnesses but many students are missing school due to trips and vacations. Due to the COVID pandemic, students have already missed a great deal of school in the last two years. It is critical to their development that they attend school whenever they are healthy. Plus, we don't want them to miss all the fun that happens here at LPE! Please make sure your child is at school on time every day (when they are healthy).
  2. Loma Portal THANKS you all for supporting our school with our Jogathon! The Jogathon is a major fundraiser for our school and thanks to you all, we were able to raise more than $50,000 to fund the various programs available on our campus (such as STEAM, Music, and Library). We can’t thank you enough for your support! Special thanks to Brooke Smith for helping to organize this fun event!
  3. Our school was asked to create a brief video to share many of the great things about Loma Portal at our district’s next School Board meeting (10/12 at 5pm), highlighting in particular our rich history and focus on STEAM! Such great exposure for our amazing school! Some of our 4th gradestudents helped with this (thank you kids!). And many thanks to Lizz Sather for helping to put the video together! The video can be found below. If you are interested in attending the Board Meeting (it is held virtually) the livestream link can be found HERE (click this link just before 5pm on 10/12).

  1. Our next School Governance Team (SGT) and School Site Council (SSC) meeting will be held on Monday 10/11 at 3pm (Zoom link below). The agendas can be found on our SSC Webpage below. In addition, each year we are required to “elect” our parent SSC nominees. Please take a moment to vote for our SSC parent nominees. Click HERE for our 2021-2022 SSC Election Survey.

  1. Many have parents have asked our Health Office about our Close Contact protocol (i.e. what happens if your child is considered a Close Contact?). Keep in mind, your child is considered a Close Contact if your child was within 6 feet of a COVID infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes over a 24 hour period. If your child is ever considered a Close Contact, you will be notified by our school or district health staff. Our protocol can be found HERE.
