October 22nd Announcements
Good morning Loma Portal families! I am thinking of you all as we move closer and closer to the end of our 8th week of the 2020-2021 school year. Our staff and I are all missing seeing your children’s faces (in person) although we are so happy connect with you virtually daily. You are all doing an amazing job showing up online each and every day on time and ready to learn!! Keep it up! A huge shout out to our parents and staff as they continue to learn new things with a focus on making our online learning experience positive, engaging, loving, and productive for our students.
I would like to continue to encourage our community to contact me if any questions or concerns arise within our school community. Together when we are communicating, we always achieve more! Please see below for some important updates. --MM
1. Recently, information has gone out regarding SDUSD's plans for the continuation of the Phase 1 School Reopening plan and beyond. Please see the letter below from all of the Point Loma Cluster schools and the SDUSD slideshow for more information.

2. SDUSD’s annual School Choice window is currently OPEN. If you know of anyone who lives outside the Loma Portal boundaries (see the School Finder below) and would like to attend LPE in 2021-2022, they may enter the Choice lottery. Please see below for details. The Choice window closes on November 16, 2020.

3. Attendance Calls: As some of you may already know, our normal attendance auto-calls have begun again. You will receive an auto-call whenever your child is marked with an Unverified Absence. To avoid this, please make sure your child signs into Zoom or turns assignments in every day. Especially nowadays, it more important than ever for children to have a sense of a daily routine. A big part of this is checking in with their class and teacher daily. If your child needs to be absent, please notify your child’s teacher or call our office at 619-860-5600.
4. Grades – Believe it or not, the first Trimester of the school year ends on November 6th. Report cards will be available online in mid-November. More information will be going out soon regarding how and when to access report cards. Please keep in mind that student grades are based on their mastery of grade level standards as they always have been (there has been a change to secondary school grading but this DOES NOT affect elementary schools). For more information on the California state standards, click on Mrs. Kinseth's very informative Common Core website HERE.
5. Polling – Please be aware that our auditorium is being used as a polling place for the upcoming election. The polls will be open October 31st-November 3rd. For questions regarding voting, please contact the Registrar of Voters at 858-565-5800.
6. Our school has been haunted!! Our amazing Dad’s Club is hosting a very spooky “Haunted School House” event! Drive by LPE on 10/29 anytime between 5:30pm and 7:30pm for a fun Halloween fright. Free pumpkins will be available courtesy of the Stan Diego Real Estate Group. The flyer can be found HERE. This is a stay in your car event.
7. Free flu clinics courtesy of the San Diego Health and Humane Services Agency! Check out the flyer HERE
