Mid-Week Updates

Good morning LPE families! Here we are at the 3rd day of school already!  Amazing….lots of Loma Portal Love out there on campus these past 2 days.  It has been so nice seeing so many of you!  Let’s keep the positivity rolling.  : )   See below for a few mid-week updates:

  1. Don’t forget, Monday 9/5 is LABOR DAY.  School will be closed.
  2. Another reminder….tomorrow 9/1 is our very first Thursday which is a MINIMUM DAY.  Every Thursday, our school dismisses at 12:35pm (12:25pm for UTK/Kinder).  Please be on time to pick your child up!
  3. Free COVID test kits will be going home with your child this week.  Please use these at your discretion.
  4. Traffic in front of our school in the morning is beginning to become a safety issue.  Please make sure to park curbside if you are dropping off your child.  Do not double park, park in the red, or park in the crosswalks.  This creates a dangerous situation for our students and family members.  We will be inviting our school police officers to monitor our parking situation in the next few days.  Please don’t get a ticket!
  5. Very exciting news….RUN FOR LIFE will be starting up on Tuesday 9/6.  Our Run for Life program is a daily OPTIONAL before school running program open for all students in grades K-4 and their family members.  Beginning on Tuesday, students and family members may come to campus at 8am, drop their backpacks off in their class lines, and run/walk some laps around our blacktop area from 8am to 8:15am every day.  If you would like to participate, make sure to stop off at our Run for Life table near the green play structure (on the blacktop) to pick up your child’s lanyard (we use these to keep track of your child’s laps!).  This is an optional program….students may also wait in their class lines before school if they would rather not participate. Run for Life is available to students in grades K-4 (UTK coming soon).
  6. Click HERE for our Foundation’s annual E-packet.  Lots of great info in there!
We are looking for parent volunteers to join us in our English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC)!  This is a committee dedicated to teaming parents up with school staff to support our students.  If you have a child who is an English Learner, please consider joining our ELAC!  The time commitment is minimal (4-5 meetings per year) and we try to keep it FUN.  We will talk about educational tips and strategies that you can use at home and we will provide SNACKS! Our first meeting will be on Fri 9/30 @ 7:30am in our library.  If you are interested, please click HERE.
