Our Principal

Dear Loma Portal Students and Families,

Mark Morici, Principal

It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself, Mark Morici, as the Principal at Loma Portal Elementary School! I have always heard wonderful things about the Loma Portal staff and community and, as always, I am excited to be a part of the LPE team. I am passionate about the education of our youth and am thrilled to take on a leadership role in your community. I have been the Principal here at LPE for the past six years. Prior to that, I have been a Vice Principal at E.B. Scripps Elementary School in Scripps Ranch and a Special Education Teacher at nearby Dana Middle School. I have always loved the Point Loma community and am excited to be working here.

On a personal note, I am originally from New York and have taught in Queens, NY as well as Kailua, HI before moving to San Diego in 2005. At home, I have an amazing wife of 16 years, a 13 year old son, and a 9 year old daughter (and two wonderful dogs!). My interests include traveling, reading, exercising, coaching, and cheering on my Yankees and Giants.

Professionally speaking, I believe children are products of their environment. They need a team of dedicated, goal-oriented, and positive role players around them in order to become successful. As a child, I was lucky enough to be surrounded by a team of individuals who taught me the values of hard work and positivity. Without such a strong support network, it would have been a challenge for me to become the person I am today. My teachers educated me on the value of being accountable for my actions. My coaches taught me that true success can only come about through hard work and consistency. My parents instilled in me the significance of positive energy and how a positive person can truly make a difference in the lives of others. My goal is to motivate teachers to instill these values in each and every student that enters their classroom.

My experiences have taught me that in order for schools to be successful, educational leaders need to be student-centered. Their school vision should center on the betterment of all students and every activity that occurs needs to reflect that belief. My objective as an educational leader is to create a positive culture of learning through collaboration and encouragement. I am overjoyed to become a part of your lives and look forward to working with you all!

Sincerely, Mark Morici
