Principal Update Nov. 5

November 5th Announcements

Good afternoon LPE families! I wanted to update you on a few things now that we are already in November. Unbelievable!  I hope you have all been well.  As always, please continue to keep your child’s teacher and me informed if you or your child are struggling at all with our current Online Learning situation.  I know it can be difficult.  But together, as a TEAM, we can get through anything.  Please keep me informed and I am glad to support you and your child.  As you will see below, I am looking forward to seeing you all soon!  : )    --MM

  1. Our next Principal’s Coffee will be at 4pm on Tuesday November 10th.  My intention is to stagger these monthly meetings (some will be held in the morning, some will be held in the afternoon) so a maximum number of families can attend.  I will continue to post any presentations or audio recordings on our website. Topics for 11/10 include Phase 1 and 2, our Parent Involvement Policy, and our Parent-School Compact. These documents can be found on our SSC website HERE. Please email me directly ([email protected]) if you would like the Zoom link.

  1. All SDUSD schools will be observing our normal holidays.  Upcoming dates when schools will be “closed” and no class activities will be provided are:
  • Veterans Day – 11/11
  • Thanksgiving Break – 11/23-27
  • Winter Break – 12/21-1/1

All school holidays are posted on our school calendar HERE.

  1. This month is designated as “Parent Conference Month.” Instead of holding conferences during one week only as schools traditionally do, our teachers will be scheduling parent conferences throughout the month. Please reach out to your child’s teacher for more information. In addition, report cards will be accessible via Powerschool soon.  More information will be coming out ASAP.
  1. As many of you have already heard, Phase 2 of our school’s reopening plan is still set to tentatively begin on January 4th, 2021 which is directly after our winter break.  This will give ALL students the option to return to school for 3 hours, 4 days per week. Please consult SDUSDs presentation HERE for more information.  Many hurdles still need to be crossed in order for this to begin, including maintaining low COVID numbers as a county, but January 4th is still the date we are focusing on.  More information to come. Very exciting! : )
  1. Some good news about our playground areas….our upper blacktop area and Kindergarten playground area will be repaired, resurfaced, and repainted in late December.  This is great news! We will have the opportunity to work together as a community to determine what is painted on these areas (4 square areas, tetherball circles, a track for Run for Life, a sensory/activity pathway, basketball courts, etc.). If you have any ideas for what to paint on our blacktop area or would like to brainstorm with some staff members and I, you can do this in two ways:
    1. Email me your specific ideas ([email protected]).
    2. Come to a brief brainstorming session which is open to family members and staff on Thursday 11/12 at 2:30pm.  If you are interested in attending, email me ([email protected]) and I will send you the Zoom link.

*One unfortunate note, our beautifully painted wallball walls will need to be replaced at some point this school year. SDUSD has deemed them “unsafe” due to some termite damage and wood rot. I know how special these pieces of art are to our community and how much work was put into their creation. Many thanks to our families, Foundation, and artist, Nicole Miller, for their hard work with this project.  We will be preserving this art though, and displaying it elsewhere on campus. We want our community to continue to be able to enjoy these amazing murals!

6. Lastly, another SDUSD project was just finished…..filtered water bottle filling stations were just installed at three of our existing water fountains! These will be available to all students, staff, and families!
