Thursday Announcements
Good morning Loma Portal families! What an amazing week it has been so far! The buzz of positivity and excitement is BACK as we welcomed our students back to campus last Monday. So far, our reopening plan has gone very smoothly and we have had limited issues. Some minor changes needed to be made but I truly believe that our students are safe and are excited to learn each and every day! A big THANKS goes out to the hardest working staff in SDUSD, our super star LPE staff, for making all of this work. From day 1, our teachers and staff members have been ready to take on the challenge of welcoming our 327 students on campus while also providing support for our “at home” learners at the same time. I am so proud of them all. And many thanks also go out to our wonderful LPE families for sticking with us, supporting your child at home, and getting our students to school (with their forms!). This has not been an easy task but the smiles on the faces of our students make it all worthwhile! As we head into our very first “Virtual Friday”, I wanted to give you all some more information. It has been so nice seeing many of you on campus! As always, let me know how I can support you or your child. Email me at [email protected]. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
- ALL students will be learning from home every Friday. Our campus will be closed on Fridays until the end of the school year. Teachers will be providing a minimum of 30 minutes of synchronous instruction through Zoom every Friday, along with asynchronous assignments. Please check with your child's teacher for specifics.
- Daily COVID Checklists. Our families have done an excellent job of sending their child to school with the mandatory DAILY COVID CHECKLIST! Remember though….you may print these forms out before you get to school or grab a handful of forms from the table in front of school to make it easier to fill these out daily. You may also complete this check in process via ClearPass. Click HERE for ClearPass info.
- The one area of our reopening plan that we are continually revisiting is our afternoon dismissal procedure. There are obviously many family members waiting for their child in front of our campus every afternoon. We are continually working on ways to stagger this dismissal but please, at ALL times, remain 6’ away from each other, make sure younger children are kept with you at all times, and please make sure to exit our campus area as soon as you collect your children. We have had issues with parents remaining in front of the school chatting while students are running around. While we LOVE allowing our LPE community members to reconnect, our school is quite crowded at dismissal and we ask that all families clear out as soon as they have picked up their child. Thank you! : )
- Grab and Go meals. As many of you have seen, our cafeteria has been giving away FREE lunches and Grab and Go meals every afternoon. These are available to ALL students. In an effort to minimize waste though, please work with your child to only take a Grab and Go meal bag if it is truly needed. Our district is trying hard to make sure our community is well fed but we also want to make sure food is not wasted. I am currently working on a donation program for all leftover food on our campus but once your child takes a bag, we cannot take it back. But by all means, if your child would like to take a Grab and Go meal bag (or a lunch), they may definitely do so. Thanks for understanding!
- Photo Day. Photo Day is coming up on April 21st. Our on campus students will be rotating through our photo area by class throughout the day. If your child is learning from home, you may stop by our campus at ANYTIME 9am-3pm that day to get your child’s photo taken (please meet the photographers outside of our Auditorium). The Photo Day flyer is available HERE .
- Kids’ Heart Challenge. Next week, our school will be teaming up with the American Heart Association for their annual Kids’ Heart Challenge. There will be a brief Zoom assembly on April 20th. Click HERE for more information.
